Kelly and Tom and fifty members of their family and friends flew from to US, to Ireland, to celebrate Kelly and Tom’s wedding day at Rahinnane Castle.

The bride and groom joked at the beginning stages of their wedding planning process that with the cost of a “traditional” wedding in the states, they could easily get married on every continent. While the thought of adventuring around the world to celebrate their love sound amazing. They eventually landed on the idea of having a destination wedding in Ireland!

The bride and groom had an intimate first look with each other on the beach of Ballintaggart House, where they popped champagne to mark the moment.

Then they were off to Rahinnane Castle for their ceremony. Rahinnane Castle a tower castle, now a national landmark, is located in Count Kerry, Ireland and dates back to 7 AD.

Kelly and Tom incorporated many old Irish wedding day traditions into their modern wedding. They hired a local uilleann pipe player to play during their ceremony; and while the bride’s aunt officiated over their vows, they also incorporated a modernized version of handfasting into their wedding day. The history of Irish Handfasting dates back to 7000 B.C. and is still legally recognized in some Irish villages to date.

What’s your story? What are ya’ll into? How do you spend your days? What’s important in life? etc, etc…

‘Third time’s the charm’, they say. The first time I met Tom was at the wedding of mutual friends. He doesn’t remember. The second time I met Tom was on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 2014. He barely remembers. The third time I met Tom was at a Christmas Eve Eve party hosted by those same mutual friends. And this time, I was prepared. This time, I wore faux-leather leggings. He remembers (and the rest is history). Since meeting, we’ve spent our days traveling, relaxing on the great lakes, sailing the North Channel, having impromptu jam sessions at home around the piano, and spending time with family and friends (and our pup, Tully, of course!).

Why do you want to capture your wedding on video?

We are traveling to a stunningly beautiful country, exploring it with some of our favorite human beings, and marrying one another on what’s sure to be one of the most intimate, love-filled, and adventurous days of our lives – we’d be fools if we didn’t want to capture this moment in time. This film will not only be a treasure for us when we reflect back on our incredible day, but we’re thrilled to have something so special to share with all of our loved ones back home, too. But, I must say we were not even considering a wedding film until we stumbled upon your work. There would be no video if it wasn’t for your art.

Why did you Hunter Floyd Films to create your wedding film?

We had barely even considered a wedding film before meeting you. In fact, I recall asking a friend to bring their Go Pro. How…classy? But luckily for us, your keen eye for mood, color, and moments (not to mention, your easy-going and fun-loving personality) captured our attention at one of our best friends’ weddings. And now, thanks to your amazing offer, our special day will be gorgeously documented by a person that will fit in seamlessly with our group – we couldn’t be more thrilled!

The proposal? …Tell me everything (all the gushy details)

Tom, our pooch Tully, and I went on a hike together one chilly January day. When we reached the river, ‘Waiting for My Real Life to Begin’ (one of ‘our songs’) started playing, and when I turned around Tom had dropped to one knee. He asked me if we could spend the rest of our days braving life’s adventures together, and upon my resounding ‘yes!’, he slipped onto my hand the one-of-a-kind ring (showcasing the diamond from his mom’s wedding ring) that we had designed together. Once Tully gave us both celebratory smooches, Tom uncorked a delicious bottle of red wine and we toasted to our future on the snowy beach. From there, Tom whisked me away to the sushi restaurant where we had our first date, and on our table was a lovely bottle of champagne along with a ‘Reserved for The Future McLutzlin’s’ sign – an ode to our new little family.

The Venue … What made you choose Rahinnane Castle?

At an early point in our ‘traditional’ wedding planning process, Tom looked at me and said, “With this amount of money, we could get married once on every continent.” And while all 7 would have been epic, we ended up whittling it down to just one continent (Europe) and settled on Ireland as our destination – it’s a place we’d always wanted to explore, and we certainly couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do so with some of the most special people in our lives. Our ceremony site is Rahinnane Castle and Ringfort (Caisleán Ráthanáin). The enclosure (ringfort) is said to date back to the early medieval period (probably 7th/8th to 10th century AD), and the building was destroyed during the mid-17th century, the time of the Cromwellian war. Besides its fascinating history, its gorgeous mossy stone, and the chance to be greeted by sheep grazing the Irish countryside are what drew us to this unique site. And Nelliefred’s, our reception venue, is a lovely pub in Dingle Town. They’ve been gracious enough to offer their ‘Garage’ to our group for the night. One of Dingle’s award-winning restaurants (Global Village) will be catering our private dinner, and we’ll drink and dance the rest of the night away with Dingle locals as an amazing 3-piece band plays an eclectic mix of trad and 80s-present music. We’re so excited to have a casual, intimate wedding adventure that’s so very ‘us’. And we’re incredibly humbled to know we’ll have around 50 of our loved ones joining us to celebrate our commitment to one another.

What experience do you want to give to your guests?

We want our wedding to be full of love and laughter and brimming with lifelong memories. We’ve pulled together the best group of people and this is sure to be a trip of a lifetime.
